So, what do my star ratings mean?
5 Star – Buy this book. In my opinion you won’t regret it. Tell your friends and family about it, even better buy them a copy. Ask your library to get a copy so others can enjoy it too. Most of all, tell the author you loved it!
4 Star – This book has a certain mystique about it that you just can’t get away from. Tell your friends about it, give a copy to your dentist if you’re into giving presents to your dentist.
3 Star – This is a solid read. Enough to keep your brain occupied and take your mind off the real world for a bit. If you happen to leave it on the beach on holiday don’t worry.
2 Star – Every author puts effort into writing a novel. This book has a beginning a middle and an end. There might be some plot or editing issues.
1 Star – There would have to be something pretty catastrophic for me to give a 1 star review. I probably wouldn’t tell anyone about it if I felt it was this bad.
Here’s the deal, the above is purely my opinion and a good guide to how I rate the books I read.
Please remember that each book is the result of many hours of work from the author. Authors appreciate reviews of their books and good reviews (and sales!) encourage them to write more.
When I am choosing books to read, I rely a lot on the description provided by the author or publishing house. If you read a book and it differs to the description, drop the author or publisher a note saying the book was misrepresented to you. This is more constructive than leaving a harsh review.
